Ghana implements economic reforms to attract industrial investment

Ghana is shifting its economic strategy to attract international investment by prioritizing industrial development, business-friendly policies, and government accountability. The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) indicated that the nation aims to move beyond its reputation for political stability to offer commercially attractive opportunities through tax and customs reforms and targeted policies for agribusiness, textiles, and manufacturing.

To support this growth, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is advocating for increased investment in regional enterprises. The association highlighted the need for improved access to finance, infrastructure, and reliable markets to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expand production and create jobs. Challenges such as high electricity costs and operating expenses remain significant hurdles to local industrial competitiveness.

Additionally, the Minister of Transport has called for the modernization of Ghana’s ports to establish the country as a West African logistics gateway. Key priorities include increasing digitalization, improving cargo handling, and strengthening transport links between ports, railways, and roads to reduce congestion and enhance regional market access.
