University of Florence starts open semester for Medicine and Dentistry

The University of Florence is launching its open semester for students seeking admission to single-cycle degree courses in Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics. The first lessons are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 1.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, 1,359 students are enrolled in the open semester, consisting of 1,236 for Medicine and Surgery and 123 for Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics. Instruction will be available both online and in person. In-person sessions will be held at the Plesso della Torretta from September 1 to 25, and at the Mario Serio Department of Experimental and Clinical Biomedical Sciences from September 28 through mid-November. Students must reserve seats for in-person attendance.

The curriculum includes three core subjects: chemistry and preparatory biochemistry, physics, and biology. Proficiency exams will be held on December 10 and January 11, which will determine the national ranking. This year, 638 spots are available for Medicine and Surgery—a 10% increase from last year—and 35 spots for Dentistry.
