University of Florida to build championship golf course

The University of Florida has announced plans to construct the Evans University of Florida Golf Club, a new championship-level facility in west Gainesville. Spanning more than 500 acres, the project will feature an 18-hole course designed by Beau Welling and Steve Smyers, along with a clubhouse and guest cottages.

The development is supported by a gift from Consumer Cellular Chairman and CEO Ed Evans. Additionally, national contractor Power Design has provided a lead gift to establish the Power Design Team House, a state-of-the-art performance center equipped with advanced player-development technology and specialized training spaces.

University officials stated the facility is intended to enhance the recruitment and development of the university’s men’s and women’s golf programs. The new site is also expected to position Gainesville as a venue for hosting major collegiate, amateur, and professional golf tournaments.
