University of Foggia expands medical programs and international ties

The University of Foggia is expanding its academic and international presence through new medical specializations and enhanced global partnerships.

A ministerial decree for the 2025-2026 academic year has increased the university's medical specialization positions by 10.8%, rising from 240 to 266. The number of active specialization schools has grown from 32 to 36, with four new programs being introduced: Digestive System Diseases, Community and Primary Care Medicine, Thermal Medicine, and Food Science. Notably, the University of Foggia is one of only two Italian institutions, alongside Sapienza University of Rome, to offer a specialization in Thermal Medicine.

In addition to domestic growth, the university is strengthening international ties with China. A delegation from Southwest Forestry University (SWFU), led by Board Chairman Li Yongqin, is scheduled to visit the University of Foggia on September 25, 2026. The visit aims to consolidate academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation, building upon a memorandum of understanding established during a previous mission to China. The meetings will involve local stakeholders, including representatives from the Gargano National Park, to discuss research and sustainable development.
