University of Food Technologies hosts conference on Bulgarian food and wine tourism

The University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv is hosting a national conference titled ‘Bulgarian Food and Wine – A Key Factor for Tourism Development and Destination Competitiveness.’ Held on October 16 to coincide with World Food Day, the forum is organized by the National Tourism Board with support from the Ministry of Tourism.

A central highlight of the event is the first official presentation of two curated selections developed by the university’s academic team: a list of the top 10 traditional Bulgarian foods and a list of the top 10 traditional Bulgarian varietal wines. These selections aim to serve as a culinary and viticultural signature for the country to enhance tourism.

The conference features participation from high-level officials, including Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov, Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee Yavor Gechev. The event is held under the honorary patronage of President Iliana Yotova and marks the 20th anniversary of the National Tourism Board.
