University of Georgia sets NCAA soccer attendance record
The University of Georgia women's soccer team set a new NCAA attendance record for both men's and women's soccer during a match against James Madison University. A crowd of 25,433 gathered at Sanford Stadium on Thursday night, surpassing the previous overall mark of 22,512 set during a 1980 men's game at Busch Stadium.
Georgia secured a 6-0 victory in the event, which was held to honor the 30th anniversary of the United States women's gold-medal win over China in the 1996 Olympics. Honoka Hamano contributed two goals to the win. The new attendance figure also broke the previous women's record of 14,410 set during the 1999 NCAA championship.
