University of Ghana Medical Centre director calls for better research translation
Professor Charles Hayfron-Benjamin, Director of the Medical and Scientific Research Centre (MSRC) at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), has called for more deliberate systems to translate scientific discoveries into practical healthcare solutions.
Speaking at the UGMC Research Symposium, themed ‘From Bench to Bedside: Integrating Research, Technology, and Clinical Care in Ghana’, Hayfron-Benjamin noted that while Ghana possesses world-class scientists, there is a need for stronger policies, partnerships, and infrastructure to move findings from laboratories into clinical practice.
He emphasized the role of academic medical centres in generating evidence that can be applied to improve patient outcomes through an evidence-based approach. The symposium aimed to address the necessary stages of testing and validation required to bridge the gap between laboratory research and patient care.
