University of Graz predicts 2027 global temperature rise of 1.7 °C

Researchers at the University of Graz have released a new projection that the global average temperature will rise to 1.62 °C above pre‑industrial levels in 2026 and to 1.71 °C in 2027. Their analysis shows that the 20‑year mean temperature already exceeds the 1.5 °C limit of the Paris Agreement from 2026 onward, with an average of about 1.55 °C in 2027 and a predicted 1.7 °C surpassing the “well below 2 °C” goal by 2032. The scientists link the rapid warming to continued human‑generated greenhouse‑gas emissions combined with natural variations such as El Niño, warning that insufficient climate‑policy ambition is driving extreme heat events across Europe.
