University of Guadalajara releases AI teaching guide
The Virtual University System (SUV) of the University of Guadalajara has introduced a new guide for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching. This initiative marks a pioneering effort in Mexican higher education to address the integration of AI tools.
Carlos Iván Moreno Arellano, rector of the SUV, encouraged the academic community to “embrace technologies with all the care and ethical nuances addressed in the guide.” The document emphasizes promoting legitimate use rather than fostering a “persecutory culture” regarding AI.
Regarding academic integrity, the guide warns that while software exists to detect AI-generated content, such tools are not sufficient evidence for disciplinary action due to the risk of false positives. Additionally, academic Marco Antonio Chávez Aguayo highlighted the risks of students using AI to misrepresent work as their own, noting the difficulty educators face in distinguishing AI responses from original student products.
