University of Guanajuato hosts Lumbreras 2026 science competition

The University of Guanajuato (UG) hosted the Lumbreras 2026 competition, an initiative designed to promote scientific vocations among children and adolescents. Held at the Escuela de Nivel Medio Superior (ENMS) in Salamanca, the event fostered collaboration between primary, secondary, and upper secondary education levels.

This second edition saw increased participation, with 17 projects presented—five more than the inaugural event. The competition expanded to include secondary school students and saw representation from various municipalities, including Celaya, Guanajuato, Irapuato, León, Moroleón, Pénjamo, Salamanca, Salvatierra, and Silao. More than 300 people attended the project presentations.

Evaluators included members from various UG campuses and external representatives from Spaceport MX, the Universidad Virtual del Estado de Guanajuato, and the Universidad Tecnológica de Salamanca. In the high primary category, the first-place project focused on digital habits and well-being in elementary students, titled ‘Hábitos digitales y bienestar en estudiantes de primaria: diagnóstico e intervención educativa para promover el uso saludable de la tecnología’.
