University of Guyana welcomes 5,000 new students
The University of Guyana has commenced its orientation activities for the 2025/2026 academic year. The university expects to welcome approximately 5,000 new students, who will join over 10,000 continuing students across various academic disciplines.
Orientation for new students is scheduled from August 31 to September 4, 2026, spanning the Turkeyen and Berbice campuses as well as regional IDCE locations. The program utilizes a blended format, allowing students to participate in person at the George Walcott Lecture Theatre or virtually. Following the new student sessions, orientation for continuing students will take place from September 9 to 11, 2026.
A ceremonial opening is set for Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Ameena & Sattaur Gafoor Multipurpose Auditorium on the Turkeyen Campus. The orientation sessions are designed to introduce students to academic and administrative systems, university policies, facilities, and support services, while providing guidance for navigating digital learning environments.
