University of Hargeisa and UNICEF Somaliland partner on water research

The University of Hargeisa and UNICEF Somaliland are exploring a strategic partnership focused on research, innovation, and sustainable water resource management. The collaboration aims to address national development challenges through evidence-based research and capacity building.

A central component of these discussions is the proposed Groundwater Exploration, Mapping and Test Drilling (GEM) Project. This initiative involves the University of Hargeisa, UNICEF, Amoud University, and the Ministry of Water Resources Development. The project is designed to enhance hydrogeological data systems, improve groundwater mapping, and support sustainable water resource planning to increase climate resilience and water security across Somaliland.
