University of Hong Kong medical experts lead health outreach in Cheung Chau

The Home Affairs Bureau and Care Teams, in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Faculty of Medicine, held a community health event in Cheung Chau as part of the ‘18 Districts Care Health Tour’ program. The initiative aims to promote preventive medicine and enhance community health awareness through free screenings, lectures, and consultations.

During the event, medical experts, including HKU Vice-President (Health) and Dean of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine Professor Lok Siu-sing, provided lectures on managing rheumatoid arthritis and debunking common medical myths. Dr. Wong Yu-kwong also addressed upper gastrointestinal issues, advising residents against self-medicating for stomach pain to avoid risks like gastrointestinal bleeding.

In addition to the lectures, medical students and Care Team members conducted door-to-door visits to perform basic health checks, such as blood pressure measurements, for local residents. The program, which launched in April, has already expanded to several districts and continues to provide essential health services to grassroots communities.
