University of Hyderabad receives grant for AI-powered PCOS blood test

Researchers at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) have been awarded a Rs 4.98 crore grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to develop an AI-powered blood test for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), also known as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

The four-year project aims to use genomics and artificial intelligence to create a non-invasive, affordable diagnostic tool. The goal is to produce a patented, ‘made-in-India’ platform costing under Rs 2,000. By analyzing circulating immune cells in peripheral blood, the test intends to classify patients into molecular endotypes, helping clinicians predict treatment responses and IVF outcomes more accurately.

This initiative seeks to move beyond current symptom-based diagnostic criteria, which often lead to costly and repetitive fertility interventions.
