University of Ibadan leads Nigerian institutions in Webometrics global rankings

The University of Ibadan (UI) has been named the highest-ranked Nigerian university in the July 2026 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. UI secured the 1,291st position globally and first within Nigeria.

Following UI, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) ranked 1,355th globally and second in the country. The University of Nigeria (UNN) placed third nationally at 1,397th globally, while Covenant University, Ota, ranked fourth in Nigeria and 1,522nd worldwide.

The Webometrics ranking assesses 32,148 higher education institutions globally using indicators such as visibility, openness, and excellence, which reflect digital presence, accessibility of scholarly resources, and research impact.
