University of Iceland and ÖBÍ sign innovation partnership

The University of Iceland, the ÖBÍ disability rights association, and FabLab Hátúni 10C have signed a three-year cooperation agreement to introduce a Human Rights category into the Primary School Innovation Competition (NKG and NKG+).

The initiative aims to increase awareness among primary school students regarding the lives and challenges of people with disabilities. The partnership focuses on encouraging innovation related to inclusive design, accessibility, and solutions that promote social participation and empowerment for disabled individuals in both leisure and work settings.

As part of the agreement, educational materials regarding human rights and inclusive design will be developed in consultation with people with disabilities. ÖBÍ will provide up to 300,000 ISK in prize money for the Human Rights category and an additional 700,000 ISK to improve competition accessibility. FabLab Hátúni 10C will provide facilities and expert consultancy to assist students in developing prototypes.
