University of Ilorin ranks as Nigeria's top institution for research quality

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has been ranked as the top Nigerian university for research quality in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. The institution achieved a score of 69.4 percent in this category, the highest among all ranked Nigerian universities this year.

According to university officials, the ranking reflects an improvement in global standing, moving from the 1201–1500 band in 2026 to the 1001–1200 world band. UNILORIN is now one of seven Nigerian universities positioned within the global top 1,200. The research quality metric, which accounts for 30 percent of the overall score, measures how frequently a university’s research is cited by scholars globally.

The ranking results were announced at the World Academic Summit hosted by the University of Cape Town in South Africa. University leadership attributed the achievement to the disciplined scholarship of its faculty, researchers, and students.
