University of Iowa defeats Louisville 4-2 in field hockey
The No. 2 University of Iowa field hockey team maintained its undefeated record with a 4-2 victory over No. 14 Louisville at Lakeside Field during the Midwest Challenge.
Iowa established an early lead through Frederique van Cleef, though Louisville managed to tie the game in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes regained control in the second quarter via a goal from Dionne van Aalsum. After Louisville narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the third quarter, van Cleef scored her second goal of the match in the fourth quarter to secure the win for Iowa.
Iowa outshot Louisville 14-5. Both van Cleef and van Aalsum have now reached 10 goals for the season. Iowa head coach Lisa Cellucci noted the team’s ability to problem-solve during the match, while Louisville coach Justine Sowry remarked on the necessity of defensive perfection against such clinical opponents.
