University of Iowa students develop professional skills through campus jobs

Students at the University of Iowa are gaining professional experience through various part-time roles, including officiating intramural sports. The University of Iowa Recreational Services provides over 400 positions, such as refereeing for sports like flag football, soccer, and basketball.

Colton Spaur, the assistant director of sport programs, noted that while most students will not pursue officiating as a career, the roles provide essential transferable skills. These include time management, professional communication, decisive decision-making, and the ability to remain calm in intense environments.
