University of Jaén records over 3,500 new students

The University of Jaén (UJA) has reported a record 3,507 new undergraduate students enrolled for the 2026/2027 academic year. This figure marks the first time the institution has surpassed the 3,500 threshold in over a decade.

This growth represents a 10.56% increase compared to the 3,172 students enrolled in the 2023/2024 course. The university has seen progressive annual increases, rising from 3,240 students in 2024 and 3,400 in 2025 to the current total.

University Rector Nicolás Ruiz Reyes described the results as a “notable success,” noting that the institution has managed to reverse a previous trend of declining enrollments. This upward trajectory comes despite a general decline in the youth population within the province of Jaén, as the university successfully attracts students from other parts of Spain and abroad.
