University of Jena study examines international student integration in Thuringia
A study conducted by Friedrich Schiller University Jena, titled ‘ARAPiS’, has identified key factors influencing whether international students remain in Thuringia to join the regional workforce. The research, which surveyed international students, graduates, and local companies, suggests that many graduates are open to staying in the state after completing their studies.
However, several hurdles exist during the transition from academia to employment. The study highlights that proficiency in the German language, familiarity with local application processes, and establishing early contact with regional companies are critical for success. Additionally, the research emphasizes the importance of a corporate culture that actively welcomes international employees.
In Jena alone, approximately 400 international graduates enter the labor market annually. The project was supported by the Thuringian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Science, and Digital Society to help transform the region into a long-term professional and living hub for international talent.
