University of La Guajira inaugurates new sports complex

The University of La Guajira has inaugurated a new sports complex in Riohacha, covering more than 26,000 square meters. Built to international standards, the facility includes a professional football pitch, an athletics track, stands, and VIP areas, with a capacity to accommodate approximately 1,200 people simultaneously.

The project represents an investment exceeding 43 billion Colombian pesos. Funding was provided through a combination of the university’s own resources (61%) and funds from the General Royalty System (39%), managed in coordination with the Government of La Guajira.

University Rector Carlos Arturo Robles Julio stated the facility will benefit student training and academic programs, while Governor Jairo Aguilar Deluque noted the investment serves the university community and more than 23 sports leagues operating within the department.
