University of La Laguna schedules reduce TF-5 traffic

Staggered class schedules at the University of La Laguna (ULL) have successfully reduced traffic congestion on the TF-5 highway in Tenerife. Data from TITSA bus GPS systems indicate that travel times between Puerto de la Cruz and La Laguna have decreased by 10% at 08:00 and up to 18% at 09:00.

Following a successful initial year that removed an average of 500 vehicles from the road daily, the program has expanded this September. The measure now includes over 2,000 students from the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism. This brings the total number of students with reorganized schedules to more than 4,700 across 17 degree programs.

Rosa Dávila, president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, stated that the expansion is expected to remove approximately 800 cars daily from the highway during peak hours, an increase of 300 compared to the previous academic year. Authorities plan to continue collaborating with the university to implement staggered schedules in additional faculties to further improve road fluidity.
