University of Lagos and University of Birmingham announce joint degrees
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom have launched a transnational education partnership to offer joint postgraduate programmes. Scheduled to begin in September 2027, the collaboration will feature an MSc in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Technologies, alongside an MA in Digital Media and Communications.
Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, unveiled the initiative, noting its alignment with the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) and the Federal Government’s Transnational Education (TNE) Policy. The goal is to provide internationally recognized qualifications locally, enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities and equipping graduates with skills for the digital economy.
Plans are also underway to potentially extend this partnership to undergraduate degrees in disciplines that meet current labour-market demands.
