University of Lagos VC urges doctors to seek success in Nigeria

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, has encouraged Nigerian doctors to seek success within the country rather than migrating abroad for better pay and conditions.

Speaking at the conclusion of the Dr. Abayomi Ajayi Mentoring Programme, Ogunsola stated that "Nigeria is full of opportunities" and urged young professionals not to relocate permanently based solely on negative news. She suggested that while traveling abroad can be beneficial for advancing medical skills, doctors should return to build local expertise and strengthen the national health sector.

However, Ogunsola emphasized that the country must take deliberate steps to retain its healthcare workforce. She called for improved welfare packages, better working conditions, modern medical facilities, and enhanced security to encourage professionals to remain in Nigeria.
