University of L'Aquila professor faces controversy over lecture content
Professor Franco Marinangeli, a specialist in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation at the University of L'Aquila, has become the subject of political controversy following a lecture on health emergency management. During the session, Marinangeli discussed a 2013 memorandum of understanding between the former President of the Abruzzo Region, Gianni Chiodi, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The agreement was established to share scientific and sanitary expertise following the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake.
The lecture sparked protests from student groups and political organizations, leading to complaints filed with the Medical Association and university authorities. Senator Guido Quintino Liris expressed solidarity with Marinangeli, arguing that the academic discussion of scientific protocols was being instrumentalized for political purposes. The University of L'Aquila has dismissed the complaints, describing the accusations as “partial and unfounded reconstructions.”
