University of Leeds researchers study insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease
Researchers at the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine are investigating how insulin resistance contributes to cardiovascular complications. The study focuses on disrupted communication between endothelial cells and adipocytes.
Using in-vitro models of insulin-resistant conditions, the research employs Western blotting, flow cytometry, and bioinformatics to examine insulin-signalling pathways and identify mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction. The goal is to explore novel molecular pathways involved in the progression of cardiovascular disease to improve disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
