University of Leicester secures £900,000 for arts centre accessibility

The University of Leicester’s Attenborough Arts Centre has been awarded nearly £900,000 in funding from Arts Council England via the Creative Foundations Fund. This grant, provided by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, is part of a wider £19 million package for cultural organisations across the Midlands.

The funding will support a major 18-month programme of accessibility and inclusive design improvements at the Lancaster Road building. Planned upgrades include the installation of a new Changing Places facility, power-assisted doors, accessible signage, and refurbished toilets and studios. The project also aims to create dedicated spaces for artists and communities to enhance visitor experience and environmental sustainability.
