University of León launches Medicine degree amid record enrollment

The University of León (ULE) has launched the 2026/2027 academic year, marked by the historic introduction of its Medicine degree. This new program follows three decades of local demand. As of early September, the university has recorded 2,533 new enrollments, representing a 97.42% occupancy rate of its 2,600 available undergraduate spots. This figure marks a 6.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

The new Medicine program is currently operating with a temporary setup at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Vegazana and the Ponferrada campus while a dedicated building is prepared. To support the curriculum, the university is finalizing a specialized dissection room equipped with advanced technology, including 3D anatomy tools and conservation chambers.

Regarding the Medicine cohort, approximately 79 students have formalized their enrollment, with a target of 88 students to comply with regional quality agency regulations. The program has seen significant interest, with a waiting list reported at approximately 1,800 people.
