University of León student leads health prevention project in Villafañe
University of León (ULE) nursing student Carmen López Bajo has completed the ‘Sumamos VIDA’ project in Villafañe, a rural locality within the Villasabariego municipality. The eight-week initiative, supported by the Ralbar scholarships from ULE and the Banco Sabadell Foundation, focused on health prevention and emergency response training for local residents.
The program included eight public sessions covering topics such as diabetes, hypertension, mental health, and balanced nutrition. Participants also received practical training in responding to critical situations, including strokes, choking, burns, and anaphylaxis. Using simulation mannequins provided by the university, residents practiced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED).
