University of Liberia faculty maintain work stoppage over contract concerns

Faculty and staff at the University of Liberia have extended their work stoppage, which began on July 17, pending a signed agreement from the administration regarding several outstanding demands. The University of Liberia Faculty and Staff Association (ULFASA) reaffirmed this decision following a unanimous vote by its General Assembly.

A primary point of contention is a reported US$4 million renovation contract. The association has questioned the administration's attempt to award this contract to DELTA Construction Company through single-source procurement without competitive bidding. While the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission issued a ‘no-objection’ for the deal, the association stated they have seen no scope of work from the administration or the contractor.

Additional issues include salary disparities, staff increments, and NASSCORP benefits and retirement arrangements. The association also noted strained relations between the university administration and the Ministry of Public Works regarding the renovation processes, which has reportedly led to two withdrawals by the Ministry.
