University of Los Andes begins rectorate elections

The University of Los Andes (ULA) in Venezuela has officially begun the process to renew its university authorities after nearly two decades without elections. The closing of registration by the Central Electoral Commission marks a decisive step toward democratic restitution for the institution.

Following a prolonged period of administrative and structural crisis, the electoral process includes several candidates for the rectorate, including Patricia Rosenzweig Levy, Manuel Morocoima, Virgilio Castillo, Gerard Páez Monzón, Pedro Grima Gallardo, and Juan Carlos López Montilla. Four complete teams consisting of candidates for rector, academic vice-rector, administrative vice-rector, and secretary have registered, alongside two individual candidates for the rector position.

The newly elected authorities will face the challenge of managing the university's critical state beginning November 11.
