University of Manchester ranks 51st globally in 2026 ARWU

The University of Manchester has secured its position as a leading global institution in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The university is ranked 51st globally, 14th in Europe, and sixth in the United Kingdom.

Key improvements were noted in the indicators for Highly Cited Researchers and publications in Nature and Science. President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Duncan Ivison noted that the results recognize the institution's efforts as it implements its strategy to 2035, which focuses on excellence in teaching, research, and social responsibility.

In addition to the ARWU results, the university maintains strong standings in other major assessments, including 40th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and first globally in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026.

Separately, the university is recruiting for two permanent research-focused professional roles at its Oxford Road campus. These include a Research Impact Officer for the Faculty of Science and Engineering and a Research Development Manager for the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health.
