University of Maribor to receive 17 million euros in EU research funding

The University of Maribor has been awarded over 17 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund to upgrade its national research infrastructures through the RIUM 2 project. This investment is part of the INNOVUM platform, aimed at enhancing the research and educational environment at the university.

The total project value is approximately 20.4 million euros, with 17.35 million euros provided by the European Regional Development Fund under the 2021–2027 European Cohesion Policy program. The funding will allow the university to acquire modern research equipment, fostering the development of new technologies, knowledge, and innovative solutions.

Minister Monika Kirbiš Rojs stated that the project aims to strengthen research capacities in eastern Slovenia, encourage cooperation between academia and the economy, and create high-value-added jobs. The initiative is expected to facilitate faster knowledge transfer and strengthen connections between domestic and international research organizations.
