Dilan Ashar found alive after six-day search near University of Maryland

Dilan Shaan Ashar, a 22-year-old University of Maryland student, has been found alive after being missing for six days. Ashar was located on Wednesday evening near the university’s Xfinity Center after emerging from a heavily wooded area.

According to University of Maryland Police Department Chief David Mitchell, Ashar approached a Howard County Search and Rescue vehicle around 7:30 p.m. and asked, “Are you looking for me?” Ashar, a senior psychology major, was reported dehydrated, hungry, and disoriented. He was immediately transported for medical treatment.

The search for Ashar began after he was reported missing on October 2, having been last seen on surveillance footage at the Terrapin Trail Garage. During the multi-day search, authorities utilized drones, K-9 units, and dozens of first responders to cover approximately 110 acres, including the university golf course and Lake Artemesia.

Ashar’s family released an emotional appeal during the search, noting he was without his cell phone, wallet, or identification. Following his discovery, the family expressed relief, stating, “Dilan is safe, and our family is together again.” Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
