University of Mediterranean in Reggio Calabria commemorates Giulio Regeni with documentary screening
The University Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria hosted a commemorative event marking ten years since the disappearance of Italian researcher Giulio Regeni in Cairo. A documentary titled “Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo” was screened, and the programme was attended by Regeni’s parents, his lawyer Alessandra Ballerini, and life senator Elena Cattaneo, who highlighted the importance of truth and academic freedom.
The ceremony formed the 63rd stop of the nationwide “Le Università per Giulio Regeni” initiative, which has involved 76 Italian universities in a collective effort to keep the case in public consciousness. Rector Giuseppe Zimbalatti and professor Felice Arena spoke about the university’s responsibility to promote free research and to confront uncomfortable facts, while a final debate underscored the need to continue investigating the circumstances of Regeni’s murder.
