Collegiate athletics: Middle Tennessee and Vermont secure key victories
Various collegiate athletic programs reported recent results across several sports.
In football, Middle Tennessee State University defeated Nevada 27-20 at Floyd Stadium. Running back Antonio Martin Jr. recorded 104 rushing yards and the game-winning touchdown, while quarterback Roman Gagliano threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
In volleyball, Middle Tennessee State University defeated Fairfield 3-1 during the Fairfield Invitational Tournament. The victory ended Fairfield’s thirteen-game home winning streak. MTSU’s Sophia Henry and Jaslyn Reed led the Blue Raiders' attack.
In tennis, the Memphis men’s tennis team finished the Rocky Top Invite with a 7-3 record in doubles and 13-8 in singles. Meanwhile, the Indiana men’s tennis team concluded its fall opener at the UT Hidden Duals, securing 10 singles and 5 doubles victories.
In field hockey, the University of Vermont defeated Fairfield 3-1, marking the Catamounts' first win against the Stags in Fairfield since 1995. Lara Cleophas contributed three assists in the victory.
