University of Miami to host sixth Cuban studies conference
The University of Miami will host the sixth edition of the New Directions in Cuban Studies conference from October 21 to 23, 2026, in Coral Gables, Florida. The bilingual, free event is designed to bring together emerging scholars, advanced graduate students, and researchers to share new perspectives on Cuban history, culture, and politics.
Lillian Guerra from the University of Florida is scheduled as the keynote speaker. The conference will take place at the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion of the Cuban Heritage Collection within the Otto G. Richter Library. Organizers noted that the event comes at a time of profound uncertainty, citing Cuba’s economic crisis and a precarious academic horizon as the backdrop for discussions aimed at providing rigor against speculation.
