University of Michoacán’s Olympic Pool Nears Completion
University rector Yarabí Ávila González highlighted the Olympic swimming pool at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) as a multifunctional space for health, sport, education and community development. During a site inspection she noted that construction is about 95 % finished, according to planning coordinator Cindy Lara Gómez.
The 50‑by‑25‑metre pool and an adjacent rehabilitation pool (7.90 × 5.70 m) are designed to support teaching, training, research, rehabilitation and recreation. The project incorporates sustainability and energy‑efficiency criteria, aiming to improve aquatic facilities for the university’s students and staff while promoting healthy habits and inclusive access.
The development is expected to overcome historical limitations in campus water‑sports infrastructure and to serve as a model of integrated, human‑centered university services.
