University of Milan opens Santa Sofia student residence

The University of Milan (Statale) has inaugurated the renovated Santa Sofia University Residence in central Milan, near Piazza Duomo. The facility provides 88 new beds specifically reserved for students on the right-to-study (Dsu) rankings.

The project involved the renovation of 3,250 square meters of residential space and 1,400 square meters of common areas within a building owned by the Lombardy Region. Funding for the project included approximately 1.5 million euros from the Ministry of University and Research and roughly 200,000 euros from the Lombardy Region.

In addition to the 88 student beds, the complex offers a total of 147 beds to accommodate students, faculty, and visiting professors. Amenities include a canteen, bar, study rooms, laundry facilities, a gym, a music room, and a terrace. The opening of this residence, alongside other structures like Ripamonti and Cx Milan Villaggio, increases the university's residential capacity by 200 units for the 2026-2027 academic year. Students in the priority rankings can access these accommodations at a subsidized rate of 250 euros per month.
