University of Milano-Bicocca to host smart materials symposium
The Department of Materials Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca will host a symposium titled ‘From Designed Molecular Space to Unveiled Hidden Order: Developing the Next Generation of Smart Materials’. The event is part of the ‘Breakthroughs in Materials Science’ initiative.
Key speakers include 2025 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Susumu Kitagawa, a Distinguished Professor at Kyoto University’s Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences. Kitagawa will present on Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs), discussing how their crystalline structures and designed nanospaces contribute to sustainability in health, environmental, and energy sectors.
Nicola Spaldin, Vice President of the European Research Council and professor at ETH Zurich, will present on magnetic properties in materials. Additionally, Spaldin will lead a session titled ‘How the ERC Works (and How to Get a Grant)’, providing guidance on the European Research Council’s funding criteria and application processes for scientific projects.
