University of Montana launches campus thrift store

The University of Montana’s Office of Sustainability is launching a new campus thrift store called ‘The Loop @ Lommasson’. Scheduled to open on Monday, Aug. 17, during student move-in, the initiative aims to promote sustainability by keeping useful items in circulation and reducing landfill waste.

The store will offer dorm essentials such as mini-fridges, microwaves, bedding, and small appliances on a first-come, first-served basis. These items are sourced from donations made by students during the annual spring move-out event. By reselling these goods, the university seeks to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing new products and mitigate e-waste.

Additionally, the shop will feature professional and business-casual attire through the Griz Career Closet, a collaborative project designed to provide students with clothing for interviews, internships, and career fairs.
