University of Montenegro lecturers condemn sexist illustration

Gender Studies lecturers at the University of Montenegro (UCG) have condemned a sexist illustration used by the non-governmental organization Center for Civic Education. The illustration accompanied a statement regarding the rector election process.

The academics stated that while they consider the public scrutiny of university procedures and institutional decisions to be legitimate, such criticism should not involve misogynistic stereotypes. They specifically noted that the illustration depicted Professor Irena Orović, a prominent scientist at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, using visual patterns that suggest her professional advancement is due to male assistance or protection rather than her own expertise and academic achievements.

The lecturers emphasized that representing women in public and academic spheres through such patterns undermines the legitimacy of female professional success and reproduces harmful assumptions about women's capabilities.
