Germany to launch state-subsidized private pension depot in 2027
The German government is launching a state-subsidized private pension depot on January 1, 2027, aimed at encouraging citizens to supplement their statutory pensions through stock market investments. The program offers state contributions of up to 540 euros annually for investments in funds, bonds, or ETFs, with an additional 300 euros per child.
While banks and insurers are already actively promoting their products, a direct state-run alternative has yet to be released. To participate, private products must be state-certified and meet specific cost requirements. However, the Social Association (SoVD) has issued warnings regarding potential ‘deceptive packaging,’ noting that high advisory fees could diminish returns and leave the financial risk primarily with the insured individuals.
