University of North Carolina holds basketball reunion and cancer research fundraiser

The University of North Carolina athletics program held a reunion weekend centered on basketball history and charitable efforts. A major highlight was the annual Dribble for Victory Over Cancer event held at Carmichael Arena.

Supported by a $37,500 matching gift from an anonymous donor, the event raised more than $140,000 for pediatric cancer research. Participants included the men’s and women’s basketball rosters, along with athletes from gymnastics, softball, lacrosse, cheer, and the university band. Alumni such as Harrison Barnes and Marcus Paige attended to support the cause.

Additionally, the weekend featured various athletic updates, including a preview of the men's basketball team's defensive blueprint under Coach Michael Malone and a scheduled performance by Shaquille O'Neal, performing as DJ Diesel, ahead of the football game against East Tennessee State.
