University of Northern Iowa to house Chuck Grassley papers in new center
The Iowa Board of Regents has approved the formation of a new center at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) dedicated to civic engagement, leadership development, and archival stewardship. Once U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley retires from office, the center will be officially named the Chuck Grassley Center, honoring both him and his wife, Barbara.
The center is intended to house Senator Grassley’s historical papers and documents following his departure from the Senate. UNI President Mark Nook stated that the project has been in development for several years, with the goal of creating a nationally recognized resource for scholarship, public service, and the study of American representative democracy.
Funding for the center is expected to be sourced from a combination of donations, endowment earnings, grants, sponsorships, and program revenue. While the board approved the center on Grassley’s 93rd birthday, the naming will become official upon his retirement from public office.
