University of Novo Mesto holds elections for first rector

The newly established public University of Novo Mesto is holding elections today to select its first rector. Matej Makarovič, the dean of the Faculty of Information Studies, is the sole candidate for the position.

Voting is open to nearly 2,300 individuals, including 84 academic staff, 2,105 students, and 52 other employees. According to the university statute, the election results are determined by a weighted formula where academic staff hold 60 percent of the voting weight, while students and other employees each hold 20 percent.

The election process takes place at the university's temporary headquarters in the Novo Mesto City Hall. If elected, the rector will begin a four-year term starting October 1. Results are expected to be announced by this evening.
