University of Opole scientists monitor radon in Bear Cave

Scientists from the University of Opole are conducting long-term research in the Bear Cave (Jaskinia Niedźwiedzia) in Kletno to monitor radon concentrations. The study, which began in May and is scheduled to continue until October 2027, aims to ensure the safety of workers constructing a new tourist route and, eventually, the guides who will lead tours.

Researchers are utilizing both passive detectors to determine average radon concentrations over long periods and active devices for real-time monitoring. By combining these measurements with microclimate data, the team intends to establish safe working hours and organizational protocols to minimize radiological exposure for personnel.
