University of Ottawa prepares for upcoming academic term

The University of Ottawa is managing various student-focused activities and administrative preparations ahead of the upcoming academic term.

The university's athletic programs, the Gee-Gees, are maintaining active summer schedules. The men's basketball team recently traveled to Costa Rica for preparatory matches against Texas Christian University (TCU), while the women's soccer team is scheduled to travel to the Netherlands to face professional clubs AZ Alkmaar and AFC Ajax. Meanwhile, football and rugby teams are undergoing training camps to prepare for the late August season start.

Regarding student welfare, the University of Ottawa's University Health Insurance Plan (RAMU) held an information session for international students. Because non-residents in Ontario are ineligible for provincial health coverage (OHIP), the mandatory RAMU plan, managed by the Cowan Group, provides essential coverage for doctor consultations, laboratory tests, and hospital emergencies. Students were advised that while the plan covers up to 125% of official OHIP rates, it does not include dental care, vision, or prescription medications.
