University of Paderborn opens PhoQS Lab for quantum photonics

The University of Paderborn has officially opened the Photonic Quantum Systems Laboratory (PhoQS Lab), a specialized research center dedicated to quantum technologies. The facility, which houses the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS), aims to bridge the gap between fundamental research and practical applications in photonics.

Key officials, including North Rhine-Westphalia Minister-President Hendrik Wüst and Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science, attended the inauguration. The lab focuses on light-based applications critical for future communication, data transfer, and sensor technology. By fostering a scientific ecosystem, the center intends to build national and international partnerships to drive regional innovation and technological competitiveness.
